Background

The daughter of a clan mother of the Stavali, one of the more prominent clans of Kar Maraias, Tagaziel has been groomed to be her successor for much of her life. Living under the stifling influence of a powerful political figure has both damaged and hardened her against the vagaries of life, with an independent streak smoldering beneath the demure, deferential surface. The critical change came in her life during her period of study, when she met Erena Shavaar, a bastard, a scholar, and a powerful woman in her own right, who slowly liberated her from the clutches of her clan.

Tagaziel slowly thrived, eventually forging her own path independent of the clan’s wealth and connections, shedding old habits. The biggest revelation came in the third decade of her life, as she realized she was transgender (or, in Taghren parlance, a New Sister). Determined to make the best of her life, she and Erena tapped their connections to arrange for a realignment surgery in the Northern Kingdoms, away from Kar Maraias – eliminating her ability to succeed her mother as the leader of the Stavali, but permitting her to live in freedom.

Nominally ineligible for top leadership positions due to her acquired inability to sire or bear children, she was scorned by her mother. However, she was nonetheless accepted by the clan assembly and granted the rank of the lesser clan mother by the Maraian Regent, her petition backed by numerous minor power holders she selflessly helped over the years. The unconventional path to recognition and forcing the Stavali to recognize her has granted her a degree of notoriety.

Appearance

Tagaziel has soft, subtle features surrounding a pair of azure eyes, warm and caring. She wears her hair long, neatly tied back. Tawny fur is broken up by black stripes covering her limbs and tail, a sign of mixed blood due to her father, a Draagveni from the Northern Kingdoms. A black stripe rounds her neck like a torc and another over her head.

The dominant coloration signifies her belonging to the Iuryeen bloodline, made up of clans wielding a significant amount of political and economic influence due to their decentralized nature and countless number of clan enclaves scattered across the crown world of Karis and the colonies.
