There’s no denying that Fallout holds a special place in my heart and I’ve spent years maintaining The Vault Fallout Wiki. Recreating emblems, logos, and other elements of the game was a great way to pass a few hours, especially when I had to do research to figure out what those four pixels meant.
Fortunately, when recreating the emblem of the New California Republic in 2013 I had more pixels to work with!
It was a fairly easy piece of work, as the design of the emblem was shown multiple times on the town map, superimposed on a modified 1944 Army recruitment poster:
However, this image lacked colors and I remembered that there were colors provided for the emblem somewhere in the game. After quickly checking the scenery FRMs, I figured out where I saw the colors:
NCR propaganda posters found at New Reno, the future member of the federation under the Bishops, showed it clearly: The New California Republic used colors inspired by the flag of the old California Republic, though the hue of the solid color fill was slightly darker. The final touch was ensuring that the black bear and stars at the bottom remained visible against the red, accomplished with a white outline.
